Greene King Flaming Grill Wall Cladding Project

This project with Greene King’s Flaming Grill chain was about updating the classic pub interior without losing its edge. JackEvie was brought in to develop a timber cladding solution that felt bold, robust and in tune with the brand’s flame-grilled identity.

The design centres around a single 120mm wide oak plank, produced specifically for this scheme. Keeping the width consistent gives the walls a strong, ordered look, while the vertical installation draws the eye upward and makes the spaces feel taller and more open.

The finish plays a big role here. Each plank is treated with a deep, blackened stain that echoes the charred tones of open-flame cooking. Despite the darker colour, the grain remains visible, keeping the timber from feeling flat or artificial. Against the brightly coloured seating and lighter tabletops, the cladding provides contrast without stealing focus.

Durability was essential. These oak planks are built to handle the realities of a busy restaurant – from constant cleaning to everyday wear – while still holding their finish. It’s a solution designed to look good long-term, not just on opening day.
